IPM for Turf on School Grounds

Whether school turf management has been part of your job for years or you are just starting out, this webinar will describe how you can implement Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices into your turf management program. This webinar will provide insight for improving the quality and playability of your athletic and recreational fields. You will leave with an increased understanding of the importance of IPM in turf maintenance, cultural and physical control options, record keeping and key turf issues that can be addressed and applied to your program.

Kim Pope Brown

Kim Pope Brown is the Pesticide Safety Education Coordinator for the Lousiana State University AgCenter. She earned her B.S. from Auburn University in Agronomy and her M.S. from Louisiana State University in Plant, Soils and Environmental Science. With the LSU AgCenter, Kim is responsible for training commercial pesticide applicators, assisting county agents with private pesticide applicator trainings, updating study materials and exam materials in the state of Louisiana. Prior to working for the LSU AgCenter, Kim Pope Brown was the assistant pesticide safety education coordinator at Auburn University.

Alec Kowalewski, Ph.D.

Dr. Kowalewski received his M.S. and Ph.D. from Michigan State University. Prior to joining Oregon State University, he taught at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and worked as a Research Scientist at the University of Georgia Turf Breeding Program in Tifton, Georgia. Dr. Kowalewski has also served as a Briggs & Stratton Yardsmart Expert and Operational Consultant at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. In 2012, Dr. Kowalewski joined Oregon State University as the Assistant Professor and Turf Specialist, having a teaching and extension based appointment. Current research and extension interests include improving the environmental and economic sustainability of turfgrass management.
